Obituary of Nora Gemelyn Rowe
Please share a memory of Nora to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ROWE, Nora G.: Nora Gemelyn Rowe fell asleep for the last time on October 9, 2021 after battling a long illness. She was 80 years old. She was surrounded by family and friends throughout her illness and into her final days. She is survived by her husband Randolf, her 7 children: Sandra, Calvin, Robert (daughter in-law Michelle), Richard (daughter in-law Asneth), Christopher (daughter in- law Carolene), Camille, Dean, 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In addition, she leaves behind her beloved sisters Ambrozine and Deserine, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and dear friends.
Nora was born on November 14, 1940 in Elderslie, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica to Estella and Salbert Watson, as the second child of five children. She married Randolf Rowe on June 10, 1962 in Kingston, Jamaica. Initially, they settled in Whitehall Avenue in Kingston where they rented an apartment from their church mentors and friends Bro. and Sis. Shaw. In 1963, then a family of four, Nora and her husband moved to Marverly neighborhood in Kingston where she made her house a home for not only her children but her sister’s and brother’s children as well. In 1980 her now complete family of nine made the move once again to the Kingston suburb of Portmore where she grew into the next stage of life as a working mother and grandmother-working as a seamstress and eventually in the housekeeping department of Jubilee Hospital.
While Nora would have remained content to live out her life in Jamaica, she began visiting Canada in 1997, eventually emigrating with her husband to become citizens in 2010. “Mama”, “grandma”, “granny”, “aunty”, “cousin Nora”, “sis. Rowe” will be remembered most fondly for her hospitality. Always looking to meet the needs of those around her whether it be an unexpected gift or a timely word of encouragement. She will be remembered for her peace-loving nature and most tenderly she will be remembered by her maker as a good and faithful servant.
A Thanksgiving Service celebrating the life of Nora Gemelyn Rowe will be held at the Meadowvale Seventh-day Adventist Church, 5920 Montevideo Road, Mississauga, ON L5N 3J5. Viewing at 10:00am followed by service at 11:00am. Burial to take place at Meadowvale Cemetery, 7732 Mavis Rd, Brampton, ON L6Y 5L5.
